ADULT MINISTRIES

Help for the Homeless

New Horizons Homeless Shelter is located at 714 Charlton Street. It is the only homeless shelter in nine counties that serves single men and women and also families with children.

At this time the clients are in need of winter coats, underwear, hats, gloves, blankets and sleeping bags.

Clients who are homeless but choose not to live at the shelter may come in daily for a shower, to get their clothes washed or to get additional clothing. In addition, they have access to our computers for job searches, usage of the phones, help with securing a photo ID and or a social security card and theshelter can provide them with a "blessing bag". These bags contain various articles such as:

Instant soup

Instant coffee

Instant oatmeal

individual pop top cans of beanie weenies, vienna sausage, ravioli, spaghetti

peanut butter crackers

cheese crackers

snack size tuna with crackers

plastic spoons

hand sanitizer or wipes

wash cloth

bottle of water

There is no limit to what can be placed in the bag. Be creative and think what you might need if you were out on your own without a home.

Comb, nail-clippers

A couple small packs of Advil

Tissues, handy-wipes

Chap stick or lip-balm

Hand-lotion for dry-skin

Toothpaste and toothbrush

McDonalds gift certificates

Addresses and phone numbers of nearest helpful shelters

(enclose $1 in change for phone calls)

Addresses and phone numbers of nearest Godly churches

A handwritten note of kindness

(even a simple, brief note; e.g., “given in Jesus' name”)

(It's helpful to place all these items in some type of cloth carrying pack that they can continue using.)

A small pillow (“...the Son of man hath not where to lay His head,” Matthew 8:20) . . .

and any of the items in the list below for the food ministry.

A homeless ministry is something that anyone can do. But by the grace of God, we would all be homeless. This life is so short and we'll be in eternity before we know it. I don't know about you, but I want to spend the remainder of my life helping others in Jesus' name, so that I may please the Lord.

Matthew 25:40, “And the King shall answer and say unto them, Verily I say unto you, Inasmuch as ye have done it unto one of the least of these my brethren, ye have done it unto me.”

There are so may ways you can help. We have a food pantry here at the church that is always in need of restocking. If you are not a member of our church but wish to help out anyway, please call our church office at (229) 244-5344 and let them know.

Items needed to keep our food pantry stocked can be found below.

Canned goods

Cereals

Baby food/Fomula

Diapers

Personal hygiene items

Toilet paper

Canned pet food

Instant coffee / Tea bags

Juices

Canned meats / Fish

Pasta / Jar sauces

Peanut butter

Anything else you can think of that a family may need

to keep them going in their time of need.

Some helpful guidlines in buying these items include:

"Use by" date should be well into the future.

"Pop top lids" are the best.

Consider that some folks may not have a stove or can opener.

Strive for "whole" foods that can be eaten "as is".

Items should not need refregeration.

Thank you all in advance for your generosity and thoughtful care in choosing the items you purchase to donate to the Food Ministry.

"You shall open your hand wide to your brother/sister, to the poor, and to your needy in your land." Deuteronomy 15:11
